Good Places to Draw People No. 3

Onthebus

Cafes are great places to observe people. Unfortunately, I haven't been in any recently and the pub doesn't really count. So the bus stands in here, at number three of "Good Places to Draw People". Actually, I like the way one is forced to draw while on the bus. It lurches and bumps and causes all manner of happy accidents. You just can't get too fussy. Here are some drawings made on a bus journey to Richmond station, in South West London.

Haha! I meant that the pub doesn't count as a cafe (despite the many that are trying to turn themselves into such), not that it doesn't count as a place to draw people. As indeed you well know, it's one of the best, especially after the second or third pint. Then you get that nice, loose quality that the bumps in the road provide on the bus.

What do you mean the pub doesn't count, Nick? I did a perfectly nice sketch at a pub in Covent Garden last October right over your shoulder!

I used to take folded-up pieces of paper with me to bars and rock shows and make little makeshift sketchooks out of them. There's lots to see.

Matt
