I had a copy of Gene Yang's "American Born Chinese" lying around in my sixth grade humanities classroom here in Chicago. A Chinese American boy in the class asked if he could look at the book. He read and carried it around with him for the rest of the school day and then took it home with him. Before the week was up, he had read the book twice and passed it along to two of his friends, one white, the other Bengali. Two of the boys make their own comics; all three loved the book!
