My friend Steve orders a pint in one of his locals, The New Hope in South London.

Actually, it's just called The Hope, in West Norwood. 'The New Hope' sounds like a Star Wars theme bar. The Hope used to be a warm, welcoming place for arty types, but is now a haven for 'gels and geezers'. And the barmaid looks like Jimmy Saville.
