What ever happened to the Corto Maltese animated feature?
Why isn't this distributed in the US? It is any good? Does it live up to Hugo Pratt's seminal series?

It was released over here in The Netherlands on DVD, French language, dutch subs only, I'm afraid. I really enjoyed it. the animation wasn't top of the range, but the story was pretty much a straight adaptation of Corto in Siberia, and the style of animation matched Pratt's work quite well. the soundtrack is excellent (the dutch DVD release included an audio CD of the soundtrack).

You can find it online. I saw that trailer maybe 4-5 years ago when I read the article in Animation magazine and then nothing since. The comments I've read were mildly positive, so it's probably worth tracking down. It'll probably come out on DVD, but you can find it online.

I saw it, but didn't like it all that much. I'm a fan of the series, but maybe if you're a SUPER fan you'll enjoy it more. I think the general consensus on it is that it's a valiant effort, but with only moderate success.

I saw this movie when it came out in France in 2002. I don't know whether they ever plan to release it in english. As for the movie itself, I guess it's a matter of personal opinion but I enjoyed it and I found it faithful - to a certain extent - to the spirit of Pratt's Corto Maltese.

It's in French but it'll give you an idea.
